That place has meant soooo much to many many many people all around the country.... I know my children really utilized all that it had to offer and became better citizens because of it.

Visiting Artist Series

Visiting Artist Series

Connecting Vermont artists with the Boys and Girls Club members to create relationships where creativity, imagination and artistic skills can be fostered through workshops and demonstrations of the artists’ creative talents.

Exhibit Title: “Portraits”
Date: November 14th – December 2nd, 2011
Location: Cyber Café, Boys and Girls Club of Burlington

The dictionary describes a portrait as a representation of a person by an artist.  This definition is relatively loose and yet, when one thinks of portraiture one typically imagines a painting or photograph of a human face. This series of drawings and paintings attempts to broaden the spectrum of the term “portraiture” by utilizing a variety of mediums and techniques. Each piece is intended to conjure an image of a person - fictitious or real - and each piece is an unconventional take on a seemingly conventional genre of art: portraiture.

 About the Artist

A native Vermonter, Sarah Graves has been crafting and painting, stitching and knitting, drawing and gluing since she was a kid.  She majored in Studio Fine Arts at St. Lawrence University where she studied painting, drawing, printmaking and jewelry while also working as a seamstress in the University's costume department.  Her varied background has led her to create a wide spectrum of art, running the gamut from hand-sewn stuffed animals to collage, pastel to portraits, family members and friends’ dogs.  Sarah firmly believes that art is for everyone and she fully embraces and encourages a handmade lifestyle.
