Career Readiness and Life Skills

Run by full-time coordinator Dottie Olio, the Club's Career Readiness and Life Skills programs are here to help our members make smart, healthy choices in their lives. Programming includes:

KnowHow2GO College and Career Readiness:
Using a national curriculum as a model for this newly expanded program, members will learn about the steps necessary to succeed in school and apply to college and other post-secondary programs. Participants will visit local businesses, Vermont Student Assistance Corporation and New England area colleges and universities. See our KnowHow2GO page for more info. |

Torch Club:
Torch Club is our leadership and community service club for middle school members. Participants meet weekly to plan Club activities and help the community with service projects. |

Keystone Club:
Keystone Club is our teen leadership and community service group. Members participate in activities in six core areas, including community events, service projects, and acting as peer leaders in the Club. |

Youth of the Year:
Sponsored by the Reader's Digest Foundation, the National Youth of the Year Program is designed to promote and recognize service to Club and community, academic performance and contributions to family and spiritual life. Competition begins with each Club selecting a Youth of the Year who receives a certificate and medallion then enters state competition. State winners receive a plaque and $1,000 scholarship then enter the regional competition. Each of the five regional winners receives a $10,000 scholarship and enters the national competition held in Washington, DC. The National Youth of the Year receives an additional $15,000 scholarship, totaling $26,000 in scholarships, and is installed by the President of the United States

MoneyMatters:
Members get the chance to build business skills and explore their entrepreneurial interests while using Club provided seed money to create a business plan and start a small business. MoneyMatters members have successfully started and continue to run the snack bar in the Club's Cyber-cafe' and much more. Participants also visit local businesses to see first hand how they're run. |

SMART Girls:
SMART Girls is offered to members in grades 4 - 8 and focuses on issues specific to female members. It is designed to encourage healthy attitudes and lifestyles. |

SMART Guys:
Like our SMART Girls program, SMART Guys is designed for members in grades 4 - 8 and focuses on encouraging healthy attitudes and lifestyles for male members. |

Healthy Habits:
Using games, crafts and cooking help, members gather each week to discuss nutrition, health and well being. |
| |
Cooking Club:
Members have fun exploring countries and cultures through regional cuisines. Each week members cook a meal together and share it with the Club while learning healthy cooking habits. |
