As for her advice to the many young artists who will see this exhibit, she recommends that they never feel discouraged by what others think of them or what others think they should do - to trust in their abilities and their decisions and to follow the path as it shows itself to them without hesitation or regret. Just go for it!

Exhibit Title: "Natural Colors"
Date: January 30th - February 10th, 2012
Location: Cyber Cafe, Boys and Girls Club of Burlington
Molly Abbott, Painter
I am originally from a remarkably flat part of Illinois. Perhaps this is why mountains sneak into a lot of my paintings - I still find them a little novel (and beautiful) after night years of living in Vermont. I love trees and flowers, as in aparent in my art. I also like insects and animals, but they don't show up as often in my paintings - though I do include them in doodles. I paint when I have an idea in my head that I want to get on paper (or canvas) and when I can find the time. I enjoy making - and finishing - paintings. I am always impressed with how much good art there is in the world, and how creative people can be. Art, in all of its forms, is a fascinating glimpse into the human mind.

Exhibit Title: "Urban Archeology"
Date: October 31st - November 11th, 2011
Location: Cyber Cafe, Boys and Girls Club of Burlington
Galen Cheney, Painter
Galen Cheney is interested in cities—both ancient and modern. In particular, she is drawn by the beauty of the neglected city and the visual record of its past. She is concerned with this layering of voices, both past and present, and incorporates it into her work through her use of collage of drawing remnants, photographs, old newspapers, graffiti, etc. As a result, her painting amplifies a visual aspect of our cities – palimpsest – in which the past is faintly visible beneath the surface of the present.Galen Cheney received her MFA in painting from the Maryland Institute, College of Art, and her BA from Mount Holyoke College. She has received numerous awards and fellowships, including the Artist’s Resource Trust Award from the Berkshire Taconic Foundation, a full fellowship from the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, and inclusion in the highly competitive publication New American Paintings. Cheney has exhibited widely across the U.S. and in Montreal.

Makasi Siriwayo, Multimedia Artist
Makasi Siriwayo Born in Haiti in January of 1987, Makasi Siriwayo discovered his artistic talent at an early age; he started by drawing characters from his favorite comic strip “Mickey Mouse”. At the age of twelve, Makasi moved to Burlington with his parents and six siblings in September of 1999. Once introduced to Graffiti Art in Vermont, Makasi began to learn more about it. In doing some research, Makasi discovered Dondi, a pioneer of the Graffiti movement in the early sixties. After reading about him and seeing his work, Makasi was blown away by Dondi’s style. Makasi went to Pratt, majoring in Graphic Design. He likes to incorporate his background in Graffiti into his work, always pushing and exploring the possibilities of his work. “I try staying very diverse with my work,” says Makasi. “I like to serve my audience with a good menu of eye candy,” he adds as he smiles. Looking at his work, one can understand what he’s talking about; from his colorful, grungy textured-filled illustrations, to his clean digital style.
